INTRODUCTION
The project Colegio Rafael Carvallo, is one of two developed by our firm in Graneros, Chile. The Goal was to supply an educational infrastructure in a growing town.

THE SITE
The site is almost 5000 m2, but there are another building designed by us: a kindergarten. Its geometry was incorporated to the new school design to create an educational complex as a whole.

SUSTAINABLE CONCEPTS
Our firm, incorporate sustainable design concepts assuring a less energy consumption. The radial geometry in the Classrooms building provide to each space the necessary sun light in winter time, but shadow in the summer. This was made because of the weather conditions in that location. Adding to this, we designed a passive heater roof. Introducing the exterior air to the nearest layer of the coating of the roof, the air goes up meanwhile the sun heat it. Then at the top of the layer, the air is transported to the classrooms.

THE BUILDING
Its structure is principally made in concrete. The roof and other minor proportion is constructed in steel frame. It has about 2000 m2 in two floors and it is composed of three buildings: Administration & Academic Dependencies, Classrooms & Restrooms & Services and Dinning Room.
