Gareth Hoskins Architects 0-10 Years
ROYAL INSTITUTE OF BRITISH ARCHITECTS
LONDON, UK
Exhibition: Gareth Hoskins Architects 0-10 Years.
The Lighthouse Architecture Series
19 January – 24 February 2009
The Royal Institute of British Architects are pleased to present the work of Gareth Hoskins Architects,
one of Scotland’s most notable architecture firms, celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2009.
Over the last ten years Gareth Hoskins Architects have developed a reputation for both innovative public
buildings with strong social programmes and sophisticated exhibition design. The practice is now increasingly
working across the UK, participating in international competitions, winning numerous awards and tackling
steadily larger projects. They are currently working on the Culloden Battlefield Visitors Centre, the Partick
Centre for Community Health, and The Bridge Arts Centre, Glasgow, and currently working on Lerwick
Cinema and Music Venue, the National Museum of Scotland and the redevelopment of St. Andrews Square
in Edinburgh’s New Town. Their "Gathering Space" structure, commissioned by The Lighthouse, was a
highlight of the 2008 Venice Architecture Biennale.
This exhibition, curated by RIBA Journal editor, Hugh Pearman, is the first in The Lighthouse Architecture
Series, a series of monographs celebrating Scottish architectural talent. The exhibition itself consists of
a striking wooden, multi-layered display designed by Gareth Hoskins, upon which models, text and drawings
are arranged. Their work is divided into five broad categories: In Town, Edge of Town, Rural, Within These
Walls and Cityscape. The range of projects included demonstrates the practice’s preoccupation with
exploring the wider ideas of place making and the engagement of those who use and are affected by
their architecture.
