RIBA AND ACA ESTABLISH RECOVERY TASK FORCE

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Association of Consultant Architects (ACA)
have established a Recovery Task Force, with the aim of helping architects and co-professionals
through the recession and plan for an effective recovery.

Chaired by architect Barry Munday, the taskforce will reflect the views of a wide range of stakeholders,
including smaller and larger practices, students and co-professionals. Its remit will range from consideration
of the larger financial picture, including recent measures announced by the Government to support
the economy, to providing guidance for individuals affected.

The Task Force will look to:
> identify and promote a series of practical measures which will enhance economic activity in design
and construction
> minimise the social impacts of a recession by offering assistance to practices
> assist the RIBA and the ACA in giving best practice advice to members in dealing with the effects
of a recession examine how best to help students and graduates seeking practical experience
in a difficult job market

Sunand Prasad, President of the RIBA said:
“The RIBA recognises the challenges faced by the profession in these uncertain times, and is doing
all it can to minimise the effect of the recession on its members, practices and the wider industry.
I am glad to be working with the ACA on the task force, to bring to bear the best expertise
and experience on a difficult problem. We will utilise our influence and experience to help ensure
that the industry is ready to respond as we emerge from the recession.

Brian Waters, President of the ACA said:
“We have agreed to establish a Recovery Task Force in response to the Government's proposals for
a fiscal boost to the economy. The aim is to identify, solicit support and promote a series of immediate
measures which will make beneficial changes on the ground which will increase economic activity
for architects, associated professionals and contractors.”

The Task Force welcomes suggestions from RIBA and ACA members for actions which the task force
might explore.
