Snelder Architecten is headed by Janneke Snelder (b. 1964) and Michiel Snelder (b. 1967).

The impetus for setting up the practice in 2000 came from the commission from KINZO tools to design
a distribution centre with office on a motorway location. This design, which won several architecture prizes
and generated considerable publicity both at home and abroad, was a major factor in the practice’s rapid
growth.

Since 2000, Snelder Architecten have undertaken a wide range of designs, including College de Brink (2003),
an educational project entailing 12,000 m2 of practical classrooms.

In 2007, construction of the practice’s design for the Workplace Community School (Werkplaats
Kindergemeenschap) reached completion. The extension of this school campus comprises 14,000 m2
accommodation for innovative secondary education, sport, culture and day care.

The practice is currently working on a diverse portfolio of projects, including Kindcluster 2, a mixed-use,
education-based development that includes 104 dwellings, and the MBR water purification plant in Hilversum.

Snelder Architecten is based in Hilversum where it occupies a former primary school designed by the highly
regarded Dutch modernist architect, W.M. Dudok. The practice currently numbers around 14 people.
