THE NORWEGIAN RADIUM HOSPITAL

THE NORWEGIAN RADIUM HOSPITAL

The existing hospital is situated in a hilly and densely built-up area in Ullern, Oslo. The extension project
includes a separate research institution, an extension of the radiation therapy function and a unified
development plan for the entire hospital.

The research complex, with general and specialized laboratories, is a transparent and flexible five-storey
crest-structure divided into phases and affording a view of the Oslo Fjord to the South. The volume
is fitted into the landscape on a bastion that contains all technical equipment, supplies and parking.
Further, it is connected to the hospital through arrival facilities with loading platform, foyer, lecture hall
and service delivery for the entire hospital.

The radiation therapy facility includes five new radiation facilities, examination functions partly below
terrain with views of the nearby valley, as well as laboratory, teaching and office facilities above terrain.
The building frames a new local arrival square between the new and the existing hospital.
