ČOVJEK I PROSTOR, the leading Croatian journal for architecture is hosting the first instalment
of ČIP TALKS, consisting of public lectures and discussions on the most important contemporary
architectural and city-planning issues, in early October (3rd and 4th), 2008. The event is structured
around short, 20-minute presentations given by leading international architects, theoreticians, journalists,
politicians, and city planners. An emphasis will be placed on public participation in the emerging
discussions.

Topics:

> Architecture – the first public presentation of results of the Zagreb Airport Competition will occur
at ČIP TALKS. In order to frame this important new project, we shall tackle the question of trends in the
airplane industry and discuss the problem to what extent the project of the new airport will influence
the urban development of Zagreb. The discussion will include prominent Croatian and international architects
(Zaha Hadid, Norman Foster, Shigeru Ban…).
> Media – How do emerging new media influence contemporary society? What is the future of (the)
media? The participants of ČIP TALKS will discuss the future of analogue media such as newspapers
and magazines as opposed to the Internet journalism, and how they may develop in the future. In addition
emerging art practices which utilize the context of new media will also be discussed.
> Legislation – How does legislation impact the built environment in Croatia and abroad? We shall
discuss the implementation of the Act on Physical Planning and Construction, a year after it was passed,
and compare it to experiences in other architectural contexts.

The invited participants of ČIP TALKS are among others: Alejandro Arcuri, Baumschlager&Eberle,
Shigeru Ban, Santiago Cirugeda Parejo, Foster&Partners, Albert Ferre , Grimshaw Architects,
James Martin, Pearson&Lloyd, Michael Rojkind and Joshua Ramus Rex.

The first issue of ČIP TALKS will be held on the 3rd and 4th of October, 2008, in the Congress Hall of the
