Moda in Casa is a Mexico City based company. Dedicated to design, fabrication, and marketing
of contemporary furniture and household accessories. While having built its first store ten years ago,
this upscale furniture retailer has always projected an image as the vanguard of the moment. As a result
of the company’s success in this role, an invited competition was initiated for the proposal of a second store.

This prize-winning project is located on an exclusive commercial avenue in México City that maintains a high
profile to both the motorist and the pedestrian. Neighboring stores with similar volumetric expression also
provoke the store’s need for a distinct image as a competitive edge. Embodying such virtues as excellence
in design, clarity of construction, and the modern expression of materials, the company’s philosophy became
criteria for the building’s expression. Centered around the exhibition of furniture as fine objects of design,
the program called for the design of a unified, open, multi-level space to display furniture and other products
of varying scale. This space also had to accommodate sales offices open to the interior and storage area
that simultaneously served as exhibition space.
