ARCHITECTURE EXHIBITION
DANISH ARCHITECTURE CENTRE

Building Sustainable Communities - Danish Architects and Engineers for the Global Compact
27 June 2008 - January 2009

In the new touring exhibition DAC | Danish Architecture Centre takes a closer look at corporate social
responsibility and how Danish architects and engineers engage in global development.
The exhibition opens at DAC 27 June 2008 as the first stop on a worldwide tour.

The exhibition has been realised with financial support from Realdania.

Through showcasing the work of 21 companies the exhibition shows how architects and engineers take
part in the creation of dignified and sustainable living conditions for human beings around the world.

Building Sustainable Communities appeals to professionals and people who take an interest in architecture
from Denmark as well as abroad. The exhibition is in English with Danish translations.

For Human Dignity and Sustainability
The 21 architectural and engineering companies showcase more than 140 current architectural and
technical solutions that enhance human dignity and create sustainable living conditions for people
around the world.

The extensive collection of projects points to the variety and the quality of Danish architectural and
engineering enterprise abroad. The emphasis is on what Danish architects and engineers do best:
design and build for human beings.

Mobile Schools, energy efficiency and windmills
On display among others, find Mette Lange Architects’ floating and mobile schools that come to children
in India, and not the other way round. The schools are designed making it easy for any smith or carpenter
in a medium sized Indian village to reproduce it free of charge. The technical drawings are accessible
for all on the website of Mette Lange Architects.

You also get the chance to experience the building, Urban Energy, for which the architectural company
Transform received first prize in an international competition for the most energy reducing building in Europe.
The building bases itself on 5 sustainability principles: daylight, natural ventilation, reduced energy use,
flexibility and context.

Among the engineers the exhibition includes Rambøll. The company exhibits windmills built into the 43-storey
World Trade Centre in Bahrain.

Joint support for UN Global Compact
The participating companies all take on their share of responsibility for the development of the world by
supporting the world’s largest initiative on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), United Nation’s
corporate network, UN Global Compact.
